EMBRACING THE SOMATIC PATH withTony birch

Healing Through Somatic Yoga

moving from sensing to feeling, from thinking to experience

"All we have to do is Let Go"

MY APPROACH

Hello my name is Tony Birch and I’ve been involved in different types of bodywork for over 40yrs, including nearly 30yrs practicing and teaching Aikido, I’ve been a Shiatsu therapist since 1994 and I began my Yoga journey in 2000.  I’ve also been involved with Buddhist contemplative practices and philosophy since 1992.  All of these influences inform my approach to movement, healing and well being .

Do often feel really tired or exhausted, does it feel like age is taking it's toll?

Struggling with fatigue, burnout or inflammatory conditions?

These are just some of the effects caused by the continuous stress induced by modern lifestyles in the digital age, and Somatic Therapeutic Yoga could be the answer you've been searching for.

Integrating Somatics with the principles of yoga fosters a deep embodied awareness. The slow and gentle movements where we surrender to gravity, are mostly floor based and echo the instinctual and reflex actions of the body, helping to release patterns of tension caused by stress, illness or injury.

The Path to Embodied Well-being

Profound Rest

Integrateing somatic movements to release deep-seated tension and restore alignment, fostering a foundation for lasting physical vitality.

Mental Clarity

Through mindful movement, we cultivate a state of embodied awareness that reduces stress and enhances cognitive focus and emotional balance.

Deep Resilience

Empowering individuals to build resilience by strengthening the connection between the body and the mind, creating a sustainable path to health.

Poetry for Yogis
Gravity

“How surely gravity's law,
strong as an ocean current,
takes hold of the smallest thing
and pulls it toward the heart of the world.

Each thing---
each stone, blossom, child---
is held in place.
Only we, in our arrogance,
push out beyond what we each belong to
for some empty freedom.

If we surrendered
to earth's intelligence
we could rise up rooted, like trees.

Instead we entangle ourselves
in knots of our own making
and struggle, lonely and confused.

So like children, we begin again
to learn from the things,
because they are in our heart;
they have never left.

This is what the things can teach us:
to fall,
patiently to trust our heaviness.
Even a bird has to do that
before he can fly.”

― Rainer Maria Rilke,

With  Only One Life

Hold with both hands
The tray of every day
And pass in turn
Along this counter.
There is enough sun
For everybody.
There is enough sky,
And there is moon enough.
The earth gives off the smell
Of luck, of happiness, of glory,
Which tickles your nostrils Temptingly.
So don’t be miserly,
Live after your own heart.
The prices are derisory.
